Hi, I have installed a second hard drive on my computer, they are both sata and coultn't see any way to set them as master or slave, ever since I have put the second hdd in the computer doesn't always boot up, if it doesn't boot up it will skip verifying pool data and not show both of the hard drives installed and go to a blinking cursor and not do anything, if I dont see the blinking cursor and it verifies pool data I know it will boot up. Does anyone have any idea what is going on and could you please help me with this

Go into your BIOS and have a look in "standard CMOS features" you should see some IDE and SATA master/slave options... although if it's 2 drives, plug the drive with your O/S into the first SATA port (namely SATA_1 on the motherboard) and the second drive into SATA_2 and see if that works

EDIT: also, look at the jumpers on the drives, the one wth your O/S should have the jumper set to master, the other to slave

thankyou

Thanks for that, I will check it out, couldn't find any jumpers on the actual hard drives when I looked though, wasn't sure if it was something to do with the new type of hard drive as I am a bit of a beginner, thanks for the help

SATA HDD's don't require jumpers like older IDE drives do.

To set the master drive you usually go into the BIOS and configure the "Drive Options" and set the main HDD as 1st boot.

It doesnt matter which ports they are plugged into. My active partition is on SATA 3 I think. The only thing that matters is that you have the bios set to boot from the correct drive. As others stated before SATA has no jumpers.

Looks like you figured it out though.
