Setting up IIS

I have a desktop pc with xp pro and I have the IIS set up (I think I do) but I can't get on it how do you view a ftp server?

To setup IIS go to Start -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services

My ip address is 192.168.1.2

Is that your FTP server or what?

first off FTP is not secure, it sends usernames and passwords in plain text. You need to set up SFTP.

Secondly, 192.x.x.x IP address are non routable so you will need to do some router work, ie port forwarding.

Google it there should be plenty of info out there

on your router you need to use port forwarding for port 21 to go to your IP Address.

its a actiotec mi424mr from verizon and I have the port 21 forwarded

which Ip address do I want to forward it to the one on my laptop or the one on the desktop?

The computer that is running the ftp server.
Setting up port forwarding will allow you to gain access to your computer via ftp from outside of your network. If your at your network right now all you need to do is type ftp://[IP of FTP Server]. If your outside of your network you would have to type ftp://[External IP of you Router].
