Well, I assume you are trying to connect it via wireless.

In this case, you would have to find out if you have a WEP key encryption; if so, you need to find out that key in your router settings.

If not, check your wireless TCP/IP settings to see whether they are configured correctly. If you want, you can go in there and set everything to automatic detect if it didn't already. Test to see if this works.

To set your DNS address and IP address services to automatic follow these steps:
Go to Start
Open the Control Panel
Double click Network Connections
Right click the connection you are using (if your connecting through wireless you'll right click Wireless Network Connection, if your connecting to the router with a wire you'll right click Local Area Connection)
After right clicking, go to Properties
Under the General tab, double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Apply the settings as seen in the following screen shots:

what you need to do first if your using wireless

go to your router setup and look under wireless > wireless security
select a Security Mode such as WEP
you will see a key code write this down

note: some security modes will ask you for a Passphrase before it will
genarate a keycode.

next on your computer go to control panel > network connections, double click your wireless network card, this should bring up a list of wireless networks in your range,

if you see only one double click it and enter that keycode twice and click ok or connect.

if you see more then one connection, double click the one with the " best signel" most bars, and will probably have a name that is the same as your router.

this should get you connected. and os now setup as your default connection and will connect every time you turn your computer on.

are you sure your router had DHCP turned on ?

if so goto run and type in cmd and click ok
in the dos window type
ipconfig /release
and then
ipconfig /renew

ok.. on the comouter that has internet goto the linksys setup
192.168.1.1 unless its been changed user name admin password admin
linksys.jpg

the local ip address is the ip of the router
the starting ip address with be the first ip address that is assigned to the computers.
the number of address is how many address wil be allowed to be assigned
and the address range is just what it sounds like

make sure the Local ip and the first ip address and the range all start within the same subnet eg 192.168.1.xxx

if you change anything make sure to click the save changes button at the bottom

next make sure the ethernet card is enabled in the computer
network.jpg

right click the network card and click properties and click tcp/ip and click properties.

next under tcp/ip make sure all is set to automatic

range
