Setting up SSD

I just realized I installed my SSD to not be as effective as it should be. When I built my PC I put my SSD in the SATA port 0, my HDD in port 1. I did not set up the controller mode thing to RAID or AHCI mode BEFORE installing of windows 7...which I now understand to not be the best thing. I don't mind re-installing windows but did I cause any permanent damage or anything to permanently make my SSD slightly slower or anything like that?

I kinda want to re-install windows to get the most out of my SSD and the longest lifespan out of it too.
 
If you've installed Windows 7 in IDE mode, try this MS fix.
Upon reboot go directly into the BIOS and change the sata controller port for the ssd to ACHI.
Reboot to Windows and check this registry key to see if it worked.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>System>CurrentControlSet>Services>Msahci> then click "start" in the right pane. If the value is 0 , it worked.
 
Was that to check if Trim was working? I did this and another method I saw in a video of

Cmd Prompt:

fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify and it was reported that if it was set to 0 it was working.

For the above it was set to 0.

For your method as well...it was set to 0 too.

Is this good?
