Settings not saving.

Ok well I used to have my Q6700 at 3 GHz, for some reason its back to defaults and now when I try to put it back to 3 GHz via the BIOS, it doesn't save. As soon as windows boots I check CPU-Z, and I'm still at stock.

when you finish with ur bios settings do you hit f10 to save and quit. If not reset ur jumpers and do ur settings in bios and see if it saves.

So you've checked the FSB with CPUz or the CPUs frequency? If it's just the frequency you are checking it could be because the CPU is reducing it's clock speed because it is idling.

Yes, I know this. And I am pressing F10.

I've checked the FSB while at Idle, and while under load with both CPU-Z and the software that came with my motherboard. It is still telling me I am at stock speeds.

Try replacing the CMOS battery. The CMOS memory holds the BIOS settings that you define in the BIOS setup program. This memory is powered using a battery so that the settings are not lose when you turn off the power to the system. Many motherboards do not test the status of this battery and will just indicate problems with the CMOS memory when the battery fails.

lol yea I know what the CMOS is, I'll probably end up trying a different battery, although I don't think thats what is causing the problem.
