As some of you may know, I have been having problems with my desktop for several months now. Here is what is happening. I am thinking all these problems are connected somehow. While gaming or running a graphic intensive program I receive the nvlddmkm error. I have reinstalled the video drivers, tried older drivers, the newest drivers and did not help. I also RMA'd the card and the same thing happens with the replacement. So that pretty much rules out the video card.
Another problem, I bought 2 new WD 500gb hard drives and both fail the WD diagnostic test. I receive the cable test: write sector error on both drives. The transfer speeds are really slow between the two drives as well. So I figured the hard drives were screwed up so I RMA'd them through Newegg and both replacements do the same thing. So I am almost certain it is not the hard drives. Though I guess it is still possible that the replacements are messed up too but I think that would be pretty rare to receive four bad hard drives.
I have also replaced the PSU with a Corsair 850HX and did not help. Now I just got done RMA'ing the motherboard through Gigabyte and they said the only thing wrong with it was a corrupted bios so they sent the same one back to me. I thought for sure that was my problem was. The only thing I haven't replaced is the CPU and the memory. I tested the memory and no errors came up. And I just don't see it being the CPU.
Now I am starting to think maybe it is Windows. Maybe a bad copy? I have the retail version of Windows 7 Pro so I may try and install the 32 bit version. Maybe it is a 64 bit issue although I doubt it.
I want to get this thing fixed. I really want to get back into gaming. Was looking forward to BF: BC2. I am really getting fed up with this. I thought about building a Core i7 build and giving this one to a family member. It does fine as a office machine, browsing internet, watching movies, music, etc. Just no heavy gaming or transferring large files.
Sorry for such a long thread. I appreciate it if you take time to read it.
