Hey guys,

Right need assisiatnce with my Nework!

Now its a bit complicated,Ive tried to make it as understanding as i can so please bear with me :P

I currently have a Virgin media Modem (VMNG300) and a Wireles-N-Router (WNR2000) connected to each other.

The Ethernet cable runs across the room from my Router stright into the back of my Pc...all works great!

However...now that i have aquired an Xbox 360 id also like to connect that to my Network,But i want it wired,I dont want to buy one of microsofts overpriced Wireless things,The problem is my Pc and Xbox are the opposite side of the room from the Router/Modem so i cant connect them like that.

I only have one Ethernet cable runing up to my pc where the Pc and Xbox are located.

What do i need to be able to Split an Ethernet connection between the Pc and Xbox?...at the moment ive been having to unplug the ethernet cable from the pc and put it in the Xbox.

I was wondering,I have another spare Router...can it be used as a HUB/Switch to share one thernet connection between two devices?
The other model of the router i have is -Netgear Wireless-G-Router WGR614 v9.

Bump...anyone?

I also found out a Netgear Wireless-N USB Adapter (Or hub) whatever you call it,but the 360 would not detect it!

Xbox 360's only detect the microsoft made wireless USB adapters. You could of course, place the USB N adapter into your PC and use the wired connection on your sexbox.

What I would do however, is purchase a second ethernet cable that could go from your router to your sexbox and string it alongside the original ethernet cable that goes from your router to your PC. One less router to go through, assuming the wireless N router has additional ports available. E.G.,

Code:
Internet>Modem>N router>ethernet>PC
                       >ethernet>sexbox

Alternatively, you said you had a G router, you could of course do similar...

Code:
Internet>Modem>N router>ethernet>G router>shorter ethernet>PC
                                         >shorter ethernet>sexbox.

or put the G router into bridge mode,

Code:
Internet>Modem>N router>ethernet>PC
                       >Wireless>G router>shorter ethernet>sexbox.

Best of luck.

Hi Kobaj,

Ah though as much,Microsoft been greedy again :/

As for placing the USB N adapter in my rig,for some reason it wont find or install the drivers for it,Its like windows 7 just does not want to work with it so thats out of the question.

I tried setting up my G router into bridge mode,But i cant figure how the hell you do it,one guy off a Netger forum (Un-official forum) gave me a PDF supposedly showing you how to do it but made no sense to me whatsoever.even the images were poor :/

I'm not any good with networking at all :d..as you can tell.

You might search online for people with similar adapter/7 configurations and see if they got it to work. Perhaps you simply need updated drivers for the device. Check the manufacturers website.

I've only have limited experience with Netgear, so someone with a Netgear might be better off answering you.

But generally you connect the router (wired) to your computer, type in its DNS address (192.168.1.1 - though, it could be 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1). It'll ask for a username and password (root, admin, blank are defaults, try different combinations).

From the main page there is usually a tab somewhere to enable adhoc/bridge mode. You might need to setup SSID or other such necessities and securities (WEP/WAP) so the G router knows to connect to the N router.

Then you disconnect the G router from your PC and connect the G router to your xbox.

Alternatively, there is DD-WRT. But once again, I have little experience. Best of luck.

Hey guys,Got it sorted....it turns out there are now Drivers for my USB N adapter for windows 7 x64,installed the drivers and now got my pc running on the wireless dongle, and the xbox running from the Ethernet cable my pc ws using....all is good!

im suprised actually,i thought id loose speed/performance going wireless on the pc but its just as fast according to Speedtest :)

Running 20Mb Virgin media connection.

Common misconception.

While there are *some* poor/cheap/crappy wireless routers and adapters that utilize packet boosting which causes terrible lag in game. If you have a good setup, and its properly configured you will have as much a speed as a regular ethernet connection (so long as signal is decent as well). But in today's day and age with wireless N phasing out both problems listed above, its almost no concern anymore.

Happy gaming.

Yeah its been a pretty damn reliable setup i have,i got it all for free aswell from my ISP :)
Thanks again :)

I go with running a seperate Ethernet cable from router to Xbox as suggested by Kobaj..eliminates inserting any other devices into the mix.

Well now my wireless connection keeps dropping on my pc and on the family laptop,I touched my router and it was really hot..im thinking that its overheating with all the stuff its doing :D

Im going to have to get a Ethernet switch so my pc & xbox is wired, then all the router has to do wireless for is the laptop (which atm wont connect since the router got hot?)
