what i am searching for is a step-by-step guideline to share my internet connection and my folders between my XP computer and my win98 computer

what i have:
- my internet connection is made with my XP machine (with a Alcatel ADSL USB modem). On that pc i have a network card.
- on my Win98 PC i have a PCM-CIA card.

what to do now???
i tried several things i found on the internet, but i can't let it work !

I need a step by step guideline.

anyone can help???

all what u need to do is to setup internet connection sharing in ur XP connection through ur DSL and then u will have to setup ur 98 LAN to DHCP then everything will work

First,we must built LAN between XP and 98.You can search LAN or Share ect.
Although I want to step by step guideline to you ,but I am sorry. Because My
English is not very well.

Yeah I know.... I must say: It has succeeded that way already long long time ago, BUT I want another way !!!....
(the reason for it is that my XP machine is a laptop, and when I follow the automatical wizard of XP for sharing my internet connection, then I don't know why but XP adds "Network Bridge" to my Network connections, and then a specific fan in my laptop (a compaq pressario 900) doesn't stop working and that always-working-fan annoys me terrible !!!! )

So what I need is another way to setup my internet sharing connection.... A manual way !!!....

if you have a switch and proper network why don't u get urselfe a LAN DSL modem as i guess u r using a normal USB one

to egysaint:
indeed i am using a usb adsl modem, but i don't have a network hub or anything else. I just have 2 laptops, one adsl usb modem and a crossed network cable.

to lorand:
thanks for this proxy server. I will try it out as soon as possible. thinks this will bring the solution.

if you manage to set yourself up with a proper network the solution will be very simple just change ur USB modem to a LAN modem then you are done
which i would rather to have better than a corss cable link, but i sure understand that sometimes there is no need for a complete network setup

You have had crossed cable ,you can config TCP/IP like this .certainly DNS you must change you local DNS.

this is supposed to be done in which machein !!
both xp and 98,but IP must different .For instance,in xp is 192.168.0.251 ,win98 is 192.168.0.2.
and 98 must install TCP/IP by manual.

Now ,I explain how to use XP build LAN.
start--My network place---setup a home or a small office network ---next(as far as finsh) So,use xp built LAN is very easy.
About win98 ,Because My coumputer is not install 98 I didn't detail it,I am sorry. You can search it in the internet.
