sharing problem

Im set up on a home network with 3 machines running from a 8 port hub.
the main machine got partitions split up in respective parts. Movies , Games, Music. All the drives are shared and pick up, but the music partition is visible but u cant access the music files. You can c the folders but not the files. Even newly added files that were visible on other drives and then moved to the music one are inaccessible afterwards.

I played around with the settings to no avail. Now there are these Locks on each file when I access them from the machine they are on but still nothing visible on the shared machines.

Ive tried tacking off sharing, changing the security and re-installed windows many times but I just cant seem to fix it.

oh got Windows 7 ultimate on all 3 machines.

ive always had the same problems. im using windows 7 pro with 3 computer and xp pro. mine works but others are more qualified to explain. it was my learning curve. i brought it up a while back in installation. look here. http://www.computerforum.com/174465-sharing-files-windows-7-a.html

Other suggestion :
check www.support.microsoft.com
query your system. use 'share xp and windows 7'.
Sorry wish i could help more. im still confused because of everything i did.
oh well.......

another adventure

Windows XP and Vista can't recognize the new Windows 7 homegroup type network, if that's any help. You'll have to create and join a workgroup in 7 by going into the system summary and under Computer name, domain, and workgroup click Change settings. Click Change in the windows that appears. Now, in the workgroup box type the name of the workgroup that the troublesome computers are in and click OK. Windows will kindly welcome you to the new workgroup, and you will have to restart.
EDIT: Oh, sorry, you've got 7 on all 3. I forgot.

May be your music folder is under My document? if so, I think the folder my document is not be able to share to the network, I could be wrong but anytime I try to share anything within my document I have problem. just a thought.
Best wishes.

Yeah, if your documents folder is set to private, anything shared in it won't be available. To change it, go to C:\Documents and Settings in XP or C:\Users in 7 and right click on the folder with your name on it and click Properties. In the sharing tab, make sure it isn't set to private, and click OK.

Whats the security like on shared folders? It could simply be a permissions thing.

The security I checked lots of times changed all. it set to all access on everyone I've tried changing some of the other users in security to but still nothing.

(and just to clarify for the other guys I'm on win7 on all 3 machines and the music is stored on a entirely different partition an has only music on nothing else and shared as a whole....)
