if i was looking around for one, what would the highlights be, i dont want something thats perfect, just something that will work without making me cry everytime i think wow i bought this???

Someone with a more sensible mind there apparently. I guess you are not looking for all the big thrills tossed in with specifications. Good! We're both in the same boar since the now 3 1/2yr. old lcd is showing it last days!

Do you have any ideas on whether you will use anything larger then a 19" or 20" model? There are also the standard lcds as well as the wide screen models to look over. Your price range will be a plus here too.

well i know that if i get a decent one i can keep it for awhile so i was thinking prolly 200-250, im kinda flexible though, and size isnt too much of a big deal, i just want a nice picture for the price basically

I have the Samsung 204bw and I love it. I even bought one for my stepson when I built him a new system, and he loves his.

I hate the LG products, but some love them. (why I have no idea)

For a about $200 you can easily find a few good wide screen models while the standard type like 1280x1024 instead of seeing 1280x900 resolutions goes for the $50 more type pricing. After setting up a 19" viewsonic standard model and seeing a great display there I then kept that in mind as far as one of the better brands to look at here.

Samsung and some others never made the grade while I also looked at the response times in ms like going for one with 8ms or lower for the best regardless of which brand and model you decide on. Out of the list of makes and 19" models seeing only 2-3ms as the fastest response time and support for the highest resolution seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010190020+4018+1309821317&name=19" I ran right into one Viewsonic model unfortunately widescreen seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116095

For a good price and good brand without going over the 1280x1024 seeing 5ms for the response the LG model can be looked over at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005095

The Samsung Syncmasters 204BW, 205BW, and 206BW are pretty good. I saw them all at display when I bought my Syncmaster 206BW. Spec wise, the 206BW is better but i hardly noticed, they were all so good looking, i just ended up taking the 206 because it had a rebate making it cheaper :P.

I also noticed some people on the forum talking about various LG LCD Panels, they seem to be pretty good from what i've heard. I also had some people say that Acer is just mediocre, not too great, but not bad.

Samsung is definitely making some impressive LCDs, there is a samsung lottery though, they have some lcds with samsung panels and some with au optronics panels. Many people were ticked because they got the AU ones but, don't fret, i have an AU panel and it is just as impressive as the samsung. I'll dig up the review i read on how there is hardly a difference between the two.

I can't go with 24" sized lcd here and leave room for a possible second for any dual monitor setup at some point. First you should look over several models by different brands to see which model or type standard or widescreen will work out best there. For gaming and multimedia look for a good response time on the model selected.

For both widescreen and standard 19" models $200 or less, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000190020+1309821317+1301922115+4017&name=%24100+-+%24200

Besides newegg you can also look over a larger selection of 19" models at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=170&

The largest seeing more brands then anyone is the four pages full seen at http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Deepsearchdd.hmx?UID=&CID=

Once you decide on a few for consideration these wiil allow you do some price shopping.

I'm still trying to locate a good one with 5ms or faster here to replace the current one. Having the faster response time helps for more then just gaming alone. But you still have to decide on widescreen or standard in order to see what each will support for screen resolutions as well as having a good low ms rate. 60hz is typical while gamers like the 70 even 75hz refresh rate as well.
