Should I add More Memory?

First the details:MB-Foxconn 6100M2MA-RS2H
CPU-AMD Sempron 2800+AM2
RAM-512 PC4200 DDR2
HDD-Seagate 80gb SATA

I added another 512 RAM by adding another memory stick. Now i'm told I have a total of 982512 of memory. My computer has 4 memory slots,2 yellow + 2 dark blue-The dark blue ones are empty. When I bring up Windows Task Manager it tells me my "Total" is 982512 "Available" is 284,900 "System Cache" is 401656. The Available and System Cache will vary somewhat. When I run Google Earth the Available goes down to 182912 and the Cache will drop to 348000.
What concerns me is these numbers have been going down the past 3 months. Do I have enough RAM or should I add more? I understand if I need to add more RAM I would need to add 2 512 RAM sticks. This would put me at 2gb of memory. Do I just go ahead and install them in the dark blue slots? Many thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Your motherboard is capable of running 4 Gigs of DDR2 533 RAM. If you are running XP 2 gigs is all you really need. Since you already have 2x512 sticks of memroy you will need another 2x512 as you mention. And, yes, place them in the blue slots after the yellow is "full."

The only way you will be able to fully utilize 4 gigs of memory is if your operating system is 64-bit.

Just make sure your RAM matches.

You mention 4gb with 64-bit so i'm good to go with the 2gb of memory? Is mine 32-bit or 64-bit? Will have to read up on this(32-bit,64bit)cause that's something I don't know anything about. Knowledge wise the one thing I have done with the computer is add more memory and did a clean install of Windows XP. Thanks for the info on the memory and the 32 & 64 bit.

If it is XP then most likely it is a 32 bit OS. XP does come in a 64-bit version but very, very few run it. It is not standard and unless one knows what they are doing there are many driver issues with XP 64-bit.

XP runs well with 2 gigs; you don't really need any more.

Again, make sure the meory you will be adding matches what you already have.

You are most welcome. Let us know how the additional 2x512 works for you if you decide to go that way.

I just got done adding the 2-512 sticks and the computer will simply not work. Windows will not start but when I remove the 2 sticks it fires up perfectly. Am I doing something wrong here? Like I said it has 2 yellow and 2 blue memory slots. I have 2 512 sticks in the yellow and added 2 to the blue slots but it won't work. Take the sticks out of the blue slots and it works. Any ideas? Many Thanks!

Try the two new sticks alone to see if they work. Tell us what the default timing and voltage is on the old stick and the new ones.

Default timing & voltage-Where do I find this? This info might help. My computer came with 1 Kingston 512 stick and I added another Kingston 512 stick. The new sticks that I ordered were supposed to be Kingston but I just noticed they are HYNIX memory sticks. Little ticked off cause the website said I was to get the Kingston 512 stick. Think that could be the problem? Thanks!

Maybe this info will help. The sticks that work are Kingston KVR533D2/512R PC2-4200 CL4 240-Pin DIMM

Cant find the timing on them. Install CPUZ and see what the two Kingston are running at.Then see if will boot with the two new sticks alone, if it does see what CPUZ say they are running at. Speed/timing/Voltage.

Would it be just as easy to get 2gb of memory by removing the 512 sticks and replacing them with 1-2gb strip or 2-1gb strip? Thanks.
