Should I be worried?

My computer froze up on me when I was using Firefox. I have WinPatrol and it alerted me that a new startup program had installed itself, but the computer froze up before listing the name of the program and I had to turn it off. So now I've been getting this alert message.



I don't really want to do certain things on the internet, like paying bills and stuff until I find out if this is a big deal or not.

Edit: I've also ran AdAware, Spybot S&D, and Active Virus Shield and they didn't find anything.
 
No, it doesn't have to do anything with viruses I guess. I had a similar problem, with Firefox, you must restart the browser OR reinstall it again ( click Fix ). Otherwise, if you really want to be checked for vi ruses, you should post a HijackThis Log.
 
Well, it apparently disabled the https: websites on my computer. I got this alert when I tried to go to one.



Here is my Hijack this log, if there's anything suspicious on there. I think I might uninstall Firefox and reinstall it.

Ok, I've checked it it was fake alarm. No viruses, and nothing serious anyway.
I saw many yahoo toolbars though and some yahoo installs, do you know sth about it?
Nothing serious and if you know what that is it can safely stay.
So, time now to think about the possible solution.
Please,if you don't want to reinstall your browser yet, you can try the other solution.
Download IE 7.0 or Opera or whichever web browser you want just to test if it's the Firefix problem.
Otherwise, if you can't surf with IE or any browser you choose to test, it's your network problem.

Well, I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and I'm still getting the alert messages. It won't let me open any secure https: websites.

So I tried Internet Explorer and that web browser seems to be working fine. I prefer Firefox, but I don't know what happened to it. I tried looking in the Control Panel - Internet Options area, but I don't really know what to look for and didn't spot anything suspicious there.

I'll go ahead and use IE for now, but I'm very confused and would like to fix Firefox.
 
Yes, well I always use IE 7.0 that's why I have many problems with it. All browsers eventually die, sth happen. Lol deathline!
Well, I'm still using IE cuz I love it but it's just the matter of time when the same thing will happen to my IE.
Btw, you can download new version of Firefox and that will cover the wrong one you will be able to use it again properly.
 
You are using SP1 which is way out of date and vulnerable to malware attacks. You need to update to SP2.

You are using the old beta version of HijackThis. The current version is 2.0.0.2.

You are using two firewalls. This is unnecessary and can lead to system conflicts and/or errors. Picking one and uninstalling the other is advised. (could be part of the problem)

It looks like there are multiple toolbars installed. This is usually a browser killer in itself, even if they are safe to use. Multiple is no good.

Have HijackThis fix this entry.

Hmmm I don't mean to argue cuz I see you know a lot evil, but no matter if it's older, a bit, still I would know if it contained some malware that causes the Firefox notto work.
SP1 makes it vulnerable, true, but he has no viruses.
Toolbars are downloaded often, Mozilla wants it to be downloaded every while. Necessery plugins.

The reason it is best to use the latest version of HJT is that any bugs or security flaws that were in previous versions have been taken out.

The toolbars I saw were not malicious. But, many a toolbar has caused problems on PCs. If one has gone buggy they can and do cause odd behavior. It may not be a bad idea to uninstall them one by one and see if things improve. They can always be reinstalled easily.

But I would first start with uninstalling one of the firewalls. Running more then one and they tend to "argue" with one another. A conflict is what I think it would be called.

Without SP2 I wouldn't be doing any online banking anyway. There have been many many security updates since SP2 was released.

We can do a more thorough scan to see what may be causing the errors.

First uninstall the version of HijackThis you have. This program will install the new version and place a shortcut on the desktop.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

1. Close all applications and windows.
2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
4. Post the contents of main.txt in your post.
5. Please also attach extra.txt to your post.

What DSS will do:

  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
 
"All browsers eventually die..." - Do they really? I had never heard that. That's kind of strange.

"You are using two firewalls." - I thought I was only running Comodo Personal Firewall. I tried to turn off the Windows Firewall when I installed Comodo. So how do I do that since I didn't do it right when I tried it a while ago?

Also, I ran the Deckard System Scan, but it seems to have a lot of information on there. Should I be worried about a hacker potentially reading that over the internet. Sorry, if I sound paranoid, but I kind of am; there's so much I don't know about computer hardware and security.
