And by BUY I mean BUY, because I've been days trying to upgrade from w7 but I still get an error.
No, there is no solution.
Yes, I searched and attempted everything.
So... should I buy it?

I wouldn't. In my home we have several laptops and PCs, all upgraded to Windows 10, and I've discovered several bugs that are anywhere from annoying to seriously frustrating. If I was going to purchase a license, I would wait a few months to see if Microsoft is listening to user's complaints.

First, you never upgrade you should always fresh install. Secondly your Windows 7 key should work on the fresh install so as said above pull down a iso and burn to disk or USB. What is the error you are getting? Would like to look at what it is related too. Also make sure you can get Win10 drivers for your machine as this will play a crucial role in how well it works.

Windows 10 has been pretty rock solid at work so it is a nice release. My only complaint is how you have settings which can be controlled through control panel, pc settings and a settings pane on the desktop and I have noticed they do not always sync with each other. Also a little disappointed in the new edge browser. If those are the only complaints I have then it is a pretty rock solid release.

What specific errors are you getting when trying to upgrade?

I felt 10 was 'okay' but you don't really 'gain' anything that you don't already have. I rolled my desktop back to 8.1 since a lot of the advertisements in the Windows 10 apps were really a little 'overzealous'. There seem to be a large amount of articles relating to network connectivity for 'features' when they're 'disabled' so was curious to see how the privacy hysteria pans out.

If you can't get the update to work, throwing money at Microsoft for another license isn't going to accomplish anything. There is a solution to it not working correctly, and if there isn't, then buying a code won't do you any good. As others have said, what exactly is happening? Media Creation Tool is a good first step.

You need to upgrade to activate your copy and then subsequently do a clean install if desired. I wouldn't say it's REQUIRED, but it's a very good idea if you do it. They even have a built in "clean wipe" so you don't have to worry about doing it manually and messing with ISO's and boot devices. I went this route with my laptop and it from what I can tell, it's equivalent to a format and clean install.

I will say I'm very happy I moved from 7 to 10. I upgraded my laptop from 8.1 to 10 soon after doing my desktop.

That's not what I want in a home PC. My stuff, my hardware is mine and not for some damn company to invade my privacy. Might as well let the NSA build the damn OS.

I agree with you. But I think Microsoft has been playing the peeping tom game for a long time, and it's not going to get any better. They'll probably get better at disguising or lying about it though. The only real alternative would be to switch to a Linux flavor. My problem with that is I have too much money invested in Windows software.

It is pretty ignorant to think that the NSA or whatever gov spying agency don't have access to your computer on Win or any other OS. As soon as your connected to internet, you are no more untouchable.
