Should I change my hard drive?

Hello!

So every time I try to start Windows on my Dell Laptop I get a blue screen with the error reading driver_irqp_not_less_or_equal. I have tried lots of ways to fix this. I've restarted in Safe Mode. I've tried to start System Restore by using command prompt. And many others. I can't find a solution and this happened a week after my warranty was up. I have an old Compaq laptop with a WD Scorpio HD. If I put the old hard drive in my new Dell Laptop will it fix the problem? I'm not sure if that's possible. I don't know a lot about hard drives, but I'm pretty sure I can't just put it in and start up the computer. Wouldn't I have to configure all the hardware with it? Kinda a newbie in this field. I couldn't really find a guide to doing in anywhere online either...thanks for your help!! :)

It could be a load of things, however I would start with RAM. Given that you cannot start the computer, remove all but 1 stick of RAM and try with just 1. If it doesn't work, try the other(s) individually also.

That is why you build your own. If you did your warranty would be 3 years not 1. Some parts have 1 year some parts have lifetime, CPU and Mobo usually have 3 year warranties.

Dell is also good at reversing the side of case they install the MOBO so if it burns up you have to get a new mobo from them.
Not to mention there is not much you can do in the bios of a dell.

could go just as bad if he built it himself, that kinda talk...you shoulda done...needs to stop. warranty does not matter honestly, support does tho

and i dont get where orientation would cause a mobo to burn up...thats bogus too...

and seriously, this is a LAPTOP... so none of what you said right now has any bearing on this situation

Bigfella's advice is spot on, tho a bluesreen view would be better yet http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

I don't know how I missed that little word..."Laptop". Anyone with an ounce of Common Since would have gathered I probably just missed one word. It was an important word indeed. Just so I know who do I contact when I loose all my data off my hard drive?? **Extreme sarcasm

None the less Dell sucks,
