Should I crossfire?

Ok guys I'm really sorry If I'm getting on your nerves by all the questions I ask But I like asking your opinion on things so I don't waste money on anything.

So Is It really worth it to crossfire? Or should I just buy One superior card?

I was thinking about this because If I don't buy a Mobo with dual pcie x16 slots I could probably save myself 60$.

In alot of cases, cross fire and sli isn't worth. Buy a good card now, then in a year or 2 when you need more performance, you can buy another one then. But, no, not really worth it.
 
Just buy one superior card. Dual card setups can have bugs with some games. Along with that they will give off more heat and will take more power.

With that being said, it would be good to have a motherboard that supports milti card configurations. Just in case :D The one that you linked would operate in a x16, x4 not worthless but not good for a SLI/crossfire setup. Look for something that has at least x8, x8.

so then If I don't want to crossfire and don't need dual x16 pcie slots, which board should I get

So which board are you considering? the first you posted will work just fine. The benefit of the other is really just more ports.

And I think you should take the dive and grab this GPU instead. It's only $20 after MIR. Besides that, I think it's actually a decent build.
 
How many of you guys have actually used crossfire or sli? I would say crossfire is definitely worth it. I purchased a HD5770 a few years ago, and recently popped another in there for about 100 bucks. Now i get between 70 - 100 FPS on all games on max which is nearly a parity scaling outcome. So instead of spending 300 dollars to be able to play BF3 on max settings, i spent 100. Totally worth it.

Well that's what I said to do. Buy a decent card now. If you need the performance boost later down the road, just buy another one. With the time lapse, the price on it will drop tremendously and you will get a very nice boost. I just don't think it's a good idea to plan a build around multi gpu when there are gpus that can handle everything just fine alone.
 
Yeah that would be a good option. The extra slot is worth having i reckon, even if you use it for Physx which will be supported by ArmA 3 for example. You will need a great CPU though and a decent PSU>
 
I imagine he plans to upgrade his CPU once bull dozer is released. At least, that seems to be most peoples' plans.

that was actually what GPU I was going to get originally, but another member told me that the radeon 6870 was similar to the 6950 and I should get that? what are your thoughts on that GPU
 
The 6870 is similar to the 6950 in that they are both ATI chipsets and the latest generation of their processors. There is an obvious difference in performance between the 2 else ATI wouldn't have released 2 different cards at 2 completely different prices.

The 6950 isn't a bad choice at all. Very powerful card. Though, the general consensus is that the GTX560 Ti is so close in performance, that it's the better buy.
 
Haha. I think you should get the other mobo but still get the GTX 560 Ti. It's way better for only $20 more.
 
sorry for the response seeming stupid I was only reading on the first page and didn't realize there was a second page haha.

and does the gtx 560 ti seem like enough to run BF3 at max?
 
Can't honestly say that for sure since it's not out yet. I imagine you shouldn't have an issue, but we'll have to see. A lot better chance of it running at max on a 560 Ti than a 6870 though.

Get the best single card you can get now for the money. Then Crossfire later on when the prices come down on the model you got. Its not a good idea to get two lowerend cards right off.

Plus the GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 is not really setup as a crossfire board. You can but the second PCIe X16 slot only runs at X4 off the southbridge not the northbridge. If you want to crossfire later, get a 990X or 990FX.
