Im seriusly thinking about dithching windows Xp and using Ubuntu linux as my main os because Xp is realy pissin me off.

i might dual boot Xp & Ubuntu so i can still play games on xp.

ive done a bit of searching around and the great news is my tv tuner is compatiable with linux, theres openoffice for my word procesing and i can still use firefox.
the only downside is i dont think my soundcard will work in Ubuntu so i would have to go back to intergrated sound:cool:

do you guys think i should switch?
i heard that flash movies didnt work in linux?

I think you have to dl flash player. And Yes duel boot so when you die and wish that ubuntu can play games you dont need to since uve got xp :D

FireFox should prompt you to d/l Flash Player the first time you try to view any flash media.
What sound card do you have?

I installed Linux Ubuntu a few months ago and I love it's features. Windows XP 32-bit is used now by me for graphic user interface programs that don't work with Ubuntu. I pretty much just use Ubuntu for everything especially browsing the internet.

The security features of Windows XP are poor in my opinion. I was always having to run anti-spyware programs to clean the operating system out. Linux Ubuntu 7.10 is more secure than Windows XP in my opinion.

Yes, Dual-booting would be suggested in your case.

What makes you think that? Even if there is no direct driver, there will most likely be a generic one.

Works fine.

Ignore everything he will ever tell you on these Forums

Did you manage to get everything re-sized?

Actually, it's a proven fact:)

For the OP, Ubuntu is very user-friendly. That makes it a very nice transition to Linux from XP and still maintains the sheer amount of power that accompanies Linux.

I think you should try it out. I still dual-boot the 7.04 distro with XP on my Sony Vaio. It's easy to use and fun to mess around with. I like the Beryl plugin. :D

Um, ALL linux distros are more secure than windows. Windows is not secure by its very design.

If you don't mind not gaming go with Linux. Unless you need some commercial software like photoshop. Adobe does not make Linux versions......yet

Even though yeah you can use GIMP but it doesn't fully compare to photoshop

It is actually possible to run photoshop without the help of Gimp, BUT it requires that you have it installed on a different OS in a dual boot, then copy files over to the ubuntu OS. Its a little tricky and there are a lot of steps, but it is possible and works pretty well.

Yeah photo shop 7, not CS 3

It sounds like a lot of work, and with one adobe update it could kill it. I prefer to run things that work natively and not have to hack it around. You may be best off just overloading your system with RAM and doing a virtual windows machine to run commercial software like that.
