Can I do this? This will be the first machine I build (and I will have help from computer friends, of course) but i just want to be sure what i build will suit my needs and wont blow up in my face. I will be using this computer for general computing.....i will not be playing any high brow games on it, but I do wish to use this for: internet surfing, listening to music, watching DVD's with at least 5.1, maybe 7.1 surround sound....maybe eventually DVR capability....Im a bit of an audiophile and a DJ so i do sound editing and some recording of dj sets on my current setup and would like the option of doing that in the future. so here goes:

oh, and im going to take a 500G HD, ethernet wifi adaptor, and DVD player from my current setup, maybe some fans and a few wires, if they'll fit...

what do you'll think? am i missing anything? will it work? i dont want to spend more than this, well actually i wanted to spend around 700...but 900 is my upper limit. ('ll be buying a 22" flat panel monitor to go with this to watch DVD's on)

Swap out the motherboard and cpu for INTEL, a Q6600 or an E8400 much better choice, also, ditch 3 GB of ram and go for 2, that way you get it running in dual channel, plus, you dont need more than 2 either

I think the AMD is fine, if you're not gaming, keep the quad core its better for multi tasking and the AMD is much less expensive than Intel.

But good thought on the dual channel memory you only need 2

yeah sorry. Thanks for the catch.

yeah no i was just confused maybe it was lingo i didnt know.....

anyways ive thought about what you'll have said and these are the mods ive made to my cart on newegg.

The only suggestion that isn't really one just another option is a Seagate HDD they're awesome but i have both, two Western Digitals and one Seagate. Both are great but i know some people prefrer one over the other
