hi. i know that the gtx 260 core 216 is an older card, but i was wondering if it would be worth getting 2 of them for $80. i know a guy that is selling 2 x gtx 260's (core 216) for $50 each, or $80 for the pair. should i grab em, or take a pass? if i were to get them i would put them in a SLI build with a athlon II x4 650, or a intel g630 build, with a 1tb HD, 4 gigs of ram, maybe 8 gigs, and im not sure about the psu. let me know what you think please. thanks

For the price I would, however consider the fact that performance wise it will be on parr with a single 5870 or 6870 which, while more expensive, will consume less power and produce much less heat and in games which don't full take advantage of multiple GPUs, which granted are few and far between now, the performance will be much better.

You will be able to play any game with them either way and it is a good price for the performance you get, even with the drawbacks

I personally wouldn't,Because they are quite outdated now and only support DirectX 10.0 so wont be able to fully take advantage of the latest DX11 games.

Then the reasons Aastii mentioned,I would stick to a newer more modern single card. :)

I'd just go for the 6870, it's a good card and worth the money. :) If I cast my mind back I remember the GTX 2xx series used to run quite hot, certainly a single 6870 would run cooler than two GTX 260s would. A Radeon 6870 would also consume less power than two GTX 260s so you wouldn't need as a big a PSU if you used a single 6870.

i can clearly see both pro's and cons in getting the 2 cards. granted a 6870 would be better as far as heat, and power as well as being more up to date, but also about $70 more than the 2 x 260's. if i do ge tthem, they wouldnt be for me. they would go in a build that i would sell. for me im getting the gtx 580 or 680. i have yet to decide.

so, since i eould be putting these in a build for sale, then do some opinions change? the build would consist of either a quad athlon II, or a dual core g630, with 4 gigs of ram, 1tb, apevia 900 watt psu (not the greatest i know, but not the worst). dvd burner, motherboard, haf 922 case, wireless keyboard and mouse, and then the 2 x gtx 260's in sli. all of which ill have about $200 invested into it. what would be a good resale price? i was thinking $400 at the lowest?

At near double the price though, I would take the 260's. They don't run all that hot, mine when overclocked was still only hitting ~70 in games, at stock was sat mid 50's.

With a decent PSU, ~$400-500, depending on whether the other components are new. With the Apevia unit, worth ~$0. Just keep in mind I managed to blow a 700W Apevia unit with an E6750, 2 x 8600GT's and a single hard drive. Nothing Apevia make are any good, their cases are flimsy and lack any features, their fans are loud and move little air, their power supplies are some of the biggest piles of crap you can buy

I had a apevia keyboard...it was ok :D

I had an Apevia case and literally have the scars to prove it. Let's just say that they like to leave every edge of their thin, cheap, flimsy metal razor sharp, which doesn't bode well when pushing out a 5 1/4" drive and accidentally scrape your knuckle over the edge as you are pushing. Sharp enough to go down to bone and do enough damage for me to not notice until I felt the stream of blood down my hand.

Aside from the ability to cause injury, it was, as previously mentioned, built terribly and had 0 features and couldn't support anything larger than a 10" card.

The fans, I have never had any louder and they were only 80mm and I have never known any to move less air.

The PSU, it blew from a system that was pulling maybe 400-450W max, even though rated at 300 more than that.

Ive had similar flimsy cases from Rosewill...but had good luck with them, psu's too, however had one that made really weird noises, replaced it with a TX650 for my sister...shes been ok since then

I've had cases like this too, they are literally lethal and they are like ovens, baking the components inside rather than cooling them. I'd dearly love to name and shame the case I've got for my old custom PC, because that's the case that's bloody (hahahaha literally see the pun? -.-) lethal. Sadly though I can't find it at all on the internet and there's no make or model no. in the case at all.

If the 6870 is going to cost twice as much as a pair of 260s, I'd say just go for the 260s - especially if you're then going to sell the rig. But you mentioned replacing your GTX 470s with either a GTX 580 or 680, so I'd say why not put one of your GTX 470s in this rig and then sell it for more? But I'd only do this if the PSU is good enough. By the way I'd say if you have the money, get the 680, but the 580 is still a great card especially now it is dropping in price.
