Should i get a PSP

The iPod Video seems like the best choice, but the only thing that im still not sure on is the screen. Since the PSP has a much larger 16:9 screen, while the iPod has a smaller screen and i believe its 4:3.

4W4K3,

I agree and disagree. Here is what I got:

PSP: 250$
GTA: LCS: 40$
Lumines: 35$
Twisted Metal: 40$
Homebrew: Free
Magazines: Free
Downloaded videos: Free
Music: Bought before

So you don't spend anywhere near what you said (400-1000$) to optimize the PSP. And don't forget the internet and RSS feeds it can get-while the internet is slow, it still is useful at times.

But I do agree about the space. I have a 1gig stick that is almost out of room.

That's $365, close to $400 in my mind. And you've only bought 3 games...not exactly what I would consider using all the PSP's features. But that's just my opinion.
Not to mention, what do todays dedicated MP3 players get in battery life? 20hrs+ in some models? That's important to me personally, I'd want at LEAST 10hrs easily.

I would be getting the PSP Value Pack for ~$200 new on eBay. And i can buy some games for $5-$10 cheaper than in stores.

Well Ive had it for about 2 months...any more and I wouldn't have time to sleep. You can buy aftermarket batteries that last for over 10 hours, and while playing music I get around 6-7 hours. Games get 4, and UMD movies 2-3.

EDIT: Also homebrew has some pretty amazing games. Think lumines quality graphics and sound, and just as addictive gameplay for the better ones. Also, games like starcraft and CNC Red Alert are being ported over through LUA coding, there are emulators for NES to N64, and even before that. So many of the best games are free. :)

I have a PSP and if you wanted to play games on it, then I would say it's worth it. In your case you want to listen to music and watch movies. If you want something with a screen thats bigger than the Ipod Videos, why not get one of those portable media center devices? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...ay.aspx?module=deviceDisplay;PMC;americas;175

An extra inch on the screen, and most likely a higher quality screen.

PSP's do have big and gorgeous screens, but don't forget that the purpose of the PSP is to play games.

Thanks, i'll look into those

i have an iPod video... it is really good for watching movies and TV Shows and stuff... teh screen is small but ur holding it right in front of u so that isn't really a minus...

the 30GB iPod video's battery life is about 3 hours watching videos/movies, and about 13 hours listening to music...

the 60GB iPod video's battery life is about 5 hours watching videos/movies, and about 20 hours listening to music...

I have had mine for about 5 months now. There fun, but very expensive. For music/movies, i would get a video ipod. The 1Gb card is very very small, you fill without a problem, where as the video ipods are 30-60gbs.

Smart, I wish i dont impulse buy sometimes
I always impulse buy. Lets see... i bought a $450 laptop on "black friday", then returned it a few days later... i bought a $1300 laptop, then sold it on ebay a week later... i buy lots of electronics for my car, and i end up not using them, and i sell them on ebay for 80% cheaper than i paid for them... I have to say, the only real purchase that i made and that im happy with would be my radar detector for my car. Everyone else i have regrets about buying.

What about a pocket PC? It's similar to a PSP since you use memory cards, and there SD so it's a bit cheaper than the Memory Stick Duos.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

And to the person who commented on the price of the memory cards, i can get a 2GB one for around $40-$50 on eBay.

Yeah, but im in the UK. I paid a good price. If shipping was worth it I would buy from the US.

Sounds like me. Just don't get it. I've got one, do I play it much? Heck no. For the price of that and big memory sticks, you might as well get a UMPC or budget laptop. With the new firmware, the internet is great, but there's no keyboard. If a keyboard was to come out, I'd snag it right away... will I use it? Maybe for a few minutes and then get right back onto my laptop. ;)

I've got GBA, PSP, PocketPC all lying around collecting dust. Oh I'll eventually use them.... sometime..... eventually.... I will.....

Yea I wouldn't get the psp either. Right now Its just sitting in my closet turning to dust. I hardly use it.

Do you think a Pocket PC would be better? I'm looking at an HP RX3115 on eBay, right now its around $105. So would you say it would be better to buy that for around $150? (It's used, but in good condition). And i can get a 1GB SD card for $25 shipped on newegg.
