Should I get an AMD or INTEL system?

I'm not sure whether I should buy a cheaper AMD Athlon 6400+ and get a motherboard with PCI Express 2.0 for a reasonable price, or if I should get an Intel system and just stick with a PCI 1 motherboard?

I already have a radeon 3870 x2, optical drive, and smilodon case.

My remaining budget is $700 including ship+tax.

You should go with AMD with a budget like that. You don't really need the 6400+. Unless its less than 20$ more, just go with the 6000 or even 5600.

yeah. go for AMD when you're working with a tight budget. if you want more performance for less, pick up the 5000+ Black Edition and overclock it. it'll cost less. as Vizy said, the 5600+ are good CPU's too. i've heard the 6000+ runs really hot.

Damn, i wish i knew about the 6000+ running hot. I bought it, its past warranty and all that, i'm lucky to stay under 50 celcious in this thing.

yeah. i asked help on here before about the 6000+ and told me not to get it since it runs really hot. and i was told about the black edition CPU's. :P

The 6000 and 6400 tend to run alittle warm. Of their upper end X2s I liked the 90nm. 5600 the best, 89 watts with 2mb of L2. Overclocks good for a AMD, got them to 3.1 with stock voltage. The new 65nm. 5600 only has 1mb of L2.

EVERYONE i have a AMD 6000+ on the stock cooler an it idels at about 27-29 an loads at 42-44 i don't think that is realy hot at all
