Should I get an i5 2500K now or wait for an i5 3570K?

So should I buy an i5 2500K now whilst they're still the latest generation chip or should I wait for the Ivy-Bridge 3570K which will be released in June? I'm possibly selling my current CPU, RAM and board to a friend and I'll obviously need to buy a replacement for myself with the money I make. I'd go for an ASUS P8Z68-V Pro motherboard with PCI Express 3.0 onboard for future-proofing, but I understand that Sandy-Bridge CPUs can't make use of the PCI Express 3.0? This is why I'm tempted to wait for the 3570K. I've looked up the expected retail prices and the 3570K looks like it's going to be about the same as the 2500K, so... I'm not sure if I should wait for the 3570K or get a 2500K now. Suggestions?

i'd go ahead and buy the mobo, then get like a celeron or pentium sandy, not the best but it should do fine in gaming for a little while.

Yeah, thought about adding it in but thought you could figure it out ;)
;) I did! I might do that or I may just get the 2500K and then stick with it, how much faster is a 3570K actually going to be? It's a tough decision because potentially what I have at the moment could be gone by next week and I need something to replace it with.

it will defiantly be faster clock for clock than a 2500k. iirc, it will have a higher max multi, and being 22nm it will overclock cooler (temps) than a 2500k, thus allowing a higher max OC.

I believe i heard it was supposed to be ~10% faster clock for clock, plus the better overclocking and lower TDP, makes it sound way better.

Plus trigate transistors, which in theory should drastically decrease power consumption and heat whilst increasing performance.

I would wait it out. It is just over 3 months, I would sooner wait that time than get something now just because it is out now

which is why i was saying to grab a celeron G530 or similar cuz they cost so little, and they should still perform great.

Wow, that is a tough call. The sad part about it is that an overclocked 2500K will almost certainly be viable for at least another three years. As it stands now, the only real need to upgrade cpu/mobo parts would be for upgraded features, such as PCIE 3.0.

I personally plan to go Ivy Bridge shortly after it comes out. My 1090T still works fine, but it's starting to get a little long in the tooth, and the downward slide is just beginning for gaming, and I figure I'll need to upgrade it when I upgrade my video card again. (from GTX 460) I sincerely hope Piledriver kicks major ass, but like most of us I doubt that will happen. Going 2500K/2600K would work great as my next cpu upgrade, but I will just wait for Ivy Bridge and be all good to go.

I wouldn't go with a 2500K now, unless you simply want one for a little while. A cheapo Pentium would work fine in the meantime, or what you already have. I suppose you could always sell your 2500K when you move to Ivy.

I'm going to ask my mate when he actually needs me to build his PC by, because I think Ivy-Bridge is coming out in April? I can wait until then, it's less than two months away. If he wants his PC by next week or before April then he can buy my stuff and I'll just use either use my older PC for a bit if I can bear it or I could just get a cheap 1155 CPU for the time being, or like somebody said buy a 2500K and then sell it later on. I made this mistake of buying too late last time, I bought my 760 in December 2010 and then not two weeks after I had bought my 760, Sandy-Bridge was released, I remember being quite hacked off and I don't want that to happen again. Also just found this and it looks to me like the 3570K is literally owning the 2500K. Will an ASUS P8Z68-V board work with a 3570K once it's released after the BIOS has been updated or do you think some new boards will come out nearer the time which will be better? I heard that the Z77 chipset is coming for Ivy-Bridge?

I thought I heard Ivy was delayed until June.

Also, from everything I've heard that Asus mobo should work just fine for Ivy Bridge. I am not knowledgeable about any of the possible differences/upgrades between the two, though.

On Wikipedia (ok not the most reliable source I know, but...) it reports that the release date for most of the new CPUs is going to be 8th April 2012. It certainly reports Q2 2012. If they're coming out June, then I may just get a 2500K soon and get 3 months out of it before I feel "obsolete". ;)

Why not just keep the i5-760 until the i5-3570k comes out? The Celeron chip is a downgrade, and buying it would be a waste of money. I understand you may be selling it to a friend... but I don't see why you would downgrade just for that.

Although if you did want to sell it you could buy the celeron and use that in a home server or htpc afterwards.

I need to speak to my mate and probably explain to him that he can buy the innards of my PC once Ivy-Bridge has come out or I can build him an i3 system that won't be half as good and he can have it sooner. I don't know what he'll go for. I'd like to sell him what I've got if I can. I agree the Celeron is probably a waste of money, but if he wants what I've got now and he offers me £300 for it (good price!) do I buy a 2500K and face that in a few months the 3570K will come and murder it or do I do something else? Can you see the situation I'm in?

Everywhere I'm looking everybody is saying the 3570K is going to be released in April. How much of a difference will I see going from a 760 to a 2500K? I'm kind of torn between just getting my hands on a 2500K now and waiting for the 3570K....

Yep I had seen that benchmark before it's basically suggesting the 2500K owns the 760. I've seen the Celeron G530 is like £30 on Novatech so I may get that as a "hop-along" CPU and use it for a month before I get the 3570K if I go that route. I need to speak to my mate and see when he wants his PC done by, if it's not urgent, it can wait until April, if it's urgent, either I'll go along the cheapo Celeron route and upgrade to a 3570K later or I'll just get a 2500K and be happy.
