i have every thing hooked up to watercooling and im want more speed out of my machine. I am just wondering if overclocking AMD FX 62 will burn out the chip.

burn out the chip. ?
dude ... it's meant to be overclocked
i dont see any problems overclocking it

Overclocking, if done right, will not fry your chip. However, I'll remind you that technically you won't be able to refund/rma your processor if you fry it due to oc'ing. Also, I don't see why you would want to oc your FX-62 in the first place, at least not at this time.

If you insist on oc'ing, I'm sure you could get plenty of help here if you needed it.

Overclocking any hardware places a good stress on them. You seem to have the need for additional cooling settled there however. When OCing temps can go up a bit high at times where stock cooling seems to lack. One online guide to look over before trying this can be read at http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/guides/cpu_oc_guide/ This guide does provide advice on OCing the FX62 model cpu you are running along with giving some warning about OCing. By following a good set of guidelines without finding that the cpu came with a hidden defect only to revealed when doing precisely this or bench testing you should be able to see how fast of a workable OC your current hardware will run at.

The FX series are designed to be overclock. If your not overclocking them then its really pointless to buy one.

And are you sure you can even overclock your Alienware?

That processor is definetly meant to be overclocked and if you have a water cooling system then why not? Try overclocking at a reasonable amount at first and then if your CPU temps arent bad then you may want to go a little higher.

If you couldn't overclock with your Aliewnare that would be very sad. Watercooling and the FX series makes a very nice overclocking combo.

As long as you don't overclock too much your system will be fine. Make sure that your CPU temps are low before overclocking, and check them while you are overclocking just to make sure they aren't too high. Also if you're using your water system make sure theres no leaks in it for you dont want to ruin your system.

Leaks with water coolers is one thing to concerned about where periodic lookovers in the case will let you know if any leaks are occuring. Plus you have to meticulous in just how those go on from the word I've been getting on them. Otherwise you could cause your own leak(s). OCing is an art in itself where some advice first backing down the memory timings and other clock speeds at first to slowly try different combinations when bringing them up. You have to kind fine tune to see just where you can go there.
