should i overclock?

my computer lags a lot while trying to run most high spec games (like assasins creed) at medium quality.
would overclocking my CPU improve the performance i am getting from my computer?
my current specs are:

CPU:
intel pendium D 820 290ghz

mainboard:
packard bell BV
cuba MS-7301

trying to save up for a new gaming rig, but untill then i want to keep using the computer i have now.

^^ Look under mainboard. It says packard bell which is oem
