Should i partition my harddrive?

Currently i have a 320 gb seagate baracuda harddrive. Should i partition it or should i not? Because i heard from someone that partition a harddrive can slow down its performance. Just wondering if thats true?
 
It won't slow down performance. Partitions are useful for a number of things. It is easier to origanize files. In case Windows crashed, you can just format its partition (you should be keeping your important files on another partition).
 
I suggest you do partition.

As TheMajor said, Its excellent for storage, game installations, music, movies and EVERYTHING, you install Windows on one partition, and have all your other stuff on other partition.

If windows crashes, you can then just partition the one drive that crashed.

Everything still perfect :D
 
Partition does not slow down computer work. I really recommend partition. Use part for os, one for important files, another for games music or videos.. You will never loose all your data in that way :)

BTW how much MB does Window XP Pro need? So i can partition my C drive to fit in with Window XP and the rest of the storage is for games,apps,musics..pics..movies etc
 
Alrighty. BTW does it matter which partition drivers (like graphic card driver,sound driver...etc) are installed at? Or you must install on the OS partition?

If you can select the folder to install, it doesn't matter. If needed, the driver will place certain files on the OS partition.

XP needs about 1.5-1.7GB (clean install). However, you will need more space because some drivers/programs will put files on that partition. Temporary files and the page file will also be stored there by default. I would go with 5GB minimum if you are sure you will install all apps on a different partition if possible. (99% of programs can be installed on a different partition). However, some programs will also put some files on the XP partition.
10GB would be safer and probably your best choice.
