Should I plan for AMD or NVIDIA?

I have used two AMD cards before, but both were old architecture, something like early/mid-2000's stuff. I have NVIDIA in my laptop now and I love it. I like them for their optimizations, like the fact that CUDA cores versus using OpenGL helps with video editing more and that more games are optimized for NVIDIA than there are for AMD. I think PHYSX is a little overrated, but it is a optimization nonetheless. I really do understand the benefits of AMD, but I'm going to lean towards NVIDIA for this build. If I build another computer in the near future, it will most likely have a AMD card in it. Whatever I do go with, I'll let you know spirit. Thanks for the help.

Whatever is good for the price that you can afford is what you should go with. Unless of course somebody has fantastic drivers that deliver better performance on games. But again that follows the first statement anyway. My past 2 cards have been AMD but that's simply because they've been cheaper than their equivalents at the time. Both are good. Just as long as you don't go Intel (for video). :D

If you're interested in video editing the CUDA cores on GeForces are useful so I'd recommend a GeForce.

Didn't realise you may want it for editing too, I thought you were only interested in gaming. :)

Nope lol. I'm into a fair bit of editing. It's all relatively small-time though. I've tinkered with many little things in rendering 3D animations as well. Most notable thing I can think of that I've accomplished in rendering would be my fountain of fire and sparks on Blender lol. I also edit videos frequently in the simple old Windows Movie Maker for my gaming clan, plus I'm going to college for Computer Engineering, so I have a feeling some editing and animating skills will be great to have lol. Thanks for the help mates, I appreciate it.
