Should I return this?

A week or two ago I bought an extra pair of 1gb Corsair memory sticks for my computer. Unfortunately they haven't been working, so I've been doing some testing to get to the root of the problem.

My new memory and old memory work fine separately, but if I try to use all four gigs at once, my computer crashes as soon as my operating system loads. At first I thought this could be a problem with my motherboard since the paired ram sticks worked by themselves.

Last night though I went over to a friends house and swapped his 4 gbs of ram for mine. When I turned on his computer, it crashed right after he logged in. But my computer was able to handle Fallout 3 fine.

So right now I'm guessing that the problem lies entirely with the new memory. At this point should I just return the new ram to newegg and see if a replacement pair works?

I would certainly contact them. maybe they know were the problem lies, or maybe it is broken indeed. Which OS are you using by the way?

I'm currently running Vista Home Premium (and so was friend).

Also, just as a little something extra, my friend and I actually have the same motherboard. So my tests feel more legitimate (at least to me).

I'm running the 32 bit version. When I used all of my memory, I looked in BIOS and my computer only recognized like...3012 mb or something like that. I know that a 32 bit operating system won't (or at least shouldn't) recognized 4gb's, but my computer wasn't even recognizing three. On top of that, when I used my friend's ram it showed up as the full 4.00gb's. So I'm not really sure whats going on with that.

And i would use a different mobo, but I don't have access to one.

i also think that it can be from the windows bit's but a friend of mine has 4 gb of ram and he is using WIN XP PRO SP2 32-bit in that cause it doesnt shows 4GB of ram BUT 3.25 of RAM

Yes, the memory is all Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz. The timings are slightly off, between the pairs, but I don't think that should be an issue.

Try manually setting the highest Timming and a voltage between the pairs in the bios. Like if one set is 444-12 at 2.1V and the other is 555-15 at 2.0V . Set it manually to 555-15 at 2.0V. Thats just a example.

ok...one of the pairs is 555-18, 1.9v. The other pair is 555-12, but I'm not exactly sure about the voltage so I'll have to check that. How would I go about manually setting everything? I get unsure of myself with some of the more technical things in BIOS. Any pointers would be great.
