Should I SLi?

I kind of want to future proof my computer so I plan on getting a 8800GTX right now and SLi in the future when the graphics demands are up. If i were to use a Q6600, would the SLi in the future be worth it ( Hopefully in 2 years the price would be less then $300 but I'd have to spend an extra $150 right now for more Watt PSU) Or should I just get a 8800 Ultra right now.
 
What are you basing your theory of "sli is a waste of money" on Chup?

Two 8800GTX's in SLI would out perform a single Ultra.

With twice the processing power working as one, it would out perform a single card.
 
Generally by the time you need a 2nd video card, it'll be cheaper/better to buy a whole new video card than to double up.

Nope, no SLi. Ultra = Maybe, or just GTX + Overclock = Ultra...
 
Don't get it unless you want maximum performance NOW as others have said, by the time you need two there will be a new one out that will be better than the two combined, and cheaper too.

Maximum performane? That's an laugh. SLi'd Ultras = 1-10% performance increase... By that time you could buy an 9800 and own those Ultras...
 
SLI isn't a "waste" if you have a power supply and motherboard that will utilize it. Its a waste if you have a nForce 570 or lower (or 650i or lower). The best SLI boards are the nForce 590 (or 680i) or any others that support x16/x16.

I would wait to consider sli when the new G92 cards come out besides the 8800GT

No, he's comparing them to the future... Go read about Nvidia's supposed 9800, then comeback...

Understand... Umm... No, you seem too dense to understand his post, read again, and watch out for our constant members, b/c picking at them with 45 posts will not get you too far here, unless you demonstrate that you can go past their knowledge, you have done no such thing. Just a hint;)
 
nVidia will never release a "9800." They're not even using that label as a code name. The marketing executives at nVidia are not monkeys. They realize that ATI have already branded a line of video cards using that numerical series.

The priority at nVidia is the introduction of the G92 processor. They are already updating 8800 models w/ this core, and the new cards they introduce late next year will probably run this processor w/ more memory and faster speeds. What will they name it? Who knows?
