Should I switch to 7, or just keep Vista?

Hey guys,

Been a while since i made a thread computer related :o. Anyways, i went to a technology expo hosted by HP a couple days back, and there was a win7 rep. he gave me the windows 7 rc in an official booklet and whatever. School's about to start and so it's time for my bi annual cleaning of the computer and reformat. Should i just reinstall Vista or go with 7? Like the microsoft office and stuff would work with win7, right? And how doed networking go? Can is till network with another vista computer (my dad's comp and mine share printers and files).

Do whatever makes you happy :) If you are happy with vista then stick with it. If windows 7 looks like it will serve you better then go with it.
 
I say make the move to windows 7,I went from Vista to 7 and its much better....faster and reliable.

As for your question about office,If it worked in Vista then it will more than likely work in 7 too,Ive not had any software not work for me in 7 as of yet.

Even if you did run into some issues you have Compatibility Mode to run it :)
 
Oh that's cool then, how about the java sdk and the rte?

I ask this because I'm taking a class at school and it requires for me to use these programs. And how about games like l4d and the like?

I wouldn't make the jump just yet.

For school, I would want something proven to work with all necessary programs.

Not worth the gamble, for that one program you need, that might not work.

Yea i'm with you on that. I'm just gonna rip apart my baby right now, install some new fans, then just put vista back on there.

I would say probobly go towards getting the Windows 7. Apparently it is much faster than Vista. It has more features and if I was you i would probobly wait till October and get the better Operating System. 7 is meant to be 2X better than Vista. There's more features and if you have read up on it. It's better than a Mac except for it's security. But let me tell you that 7 is probobly the way to go.
 
Id wait till it comes out in Oct 22 to even think about it. Im most likely converting to 7, supposed to be better for games....
 
I am sticking with Vista for a bit until i have the money for win7, even though i prefer vista.

I will stick with vista for as long as possible because i prefer it and i trust it and i would advise you to do the same. Wait for it to have been out for a few months, see what people say then when fr is out and if it is worth it straight off the bat.
 
was in a similar situation mate, just started my masters and needed things to work too. i went with win7 though and EVERYTHING i had before works just fine with win7.

plus win7 is noticeably faster and smoother to use IMHO.
go for win7, its great!!!!!!!
 
I'd say do the upgrade when Windows 7 comes out. You said you have a copy of Windows 7 RC which will expire March 1st 2010. You should be able to upgrade it with a retail copy of Windows 7 with a little work around though.

Also, you can upgrade from an Activated version of Windows 7 RC, but you must back up your files, clean install, and then reinstall your applications.
