should I try to overclock, or rather not?

Well.. I've tried some stuff already, but it didnt appear to work so far (the pc didnt want to boot anymore after I changed 1 setting for example)

official according to the list Asus has on the Web, this motherboard doesnt support the Q6600. however, according to Nvidia this chipset (the Nforce 590 SLI chipset) does support the Q6600, if it uses the 801 or 901 Bios (I use the 901 atm), and in windows it seems to work normally, 4 cores with different loads show up etc.
now, i know this board should be able to overclock quite a fair bit (iirc the best overclocking board using the 590 chipset), so, where should I start to see if it can actually overclock a Q6600?

ok, I tried using that AI overclock thingy, and when I set it to a +10% mode, it works (2.65Ghz), but when I set it to +15%, it doesnt boot :(
I just KNOW the q6600 must be able to overclock further than that, I just dont know whats holding it back atm

Don't ever use "AI" or "Auto" overclocking, either do it completely manually or not at all.

The Q6600 has great potential, especially the newer G0. Since you don't seem to be an expert on overclocking (no offense), I would start off by just raising the FSB, try setting it to 300, then 320. Make note however that you will need to set a higher memory divider and/or increase the CPU voltage to make the processor stable at higher speeds.

I got my Q6600 up to 3.7GHz @ 1.44v

I agree with Omega , I have the P5N32-E sli and using the AI always locked up with anything over 10%. I 've read several threads as where the 680I chipset does not work very well with the Quads. Everyone I 've talked too has ended up changing the NB and SB coolers because they get so hot.I hope this is not aganist the rules but there is a good thread on overclocking with that board on Overclock.net. If posting that link is aganist forum rules please delete it.

the problem is... in the bios It only show's a fsb of 1066 stock (and a seperate frequentcy, wich is set to 800MHz stock). I mean, on my AMD board, it said clearly the fsb of 200MHz, the memory divider was easy to find, and the multieplier too.. this bios is just such a mess :(

ok, twiddled a bit around in the bios. the 1066 (QDR it sais) and the memory clock (800MHz) are the only frequenties I can change (I suppose the QDR is 4x the fsb, 4x266 = 1066) but when I set the QDR to 1200 (wich would be a fsb of 300), well, it gets past post, but doesnt boot up windows.
(that was with the Vcore set to 1.45v)

I suppose this board cant overclock a quad core further than this then I gues :(

If I remember the 680i may only show the effective bus speed, but you should still be able to raise it to overclock. I had my E6300 up to 3.2GHz on my previous 680i.
