Hi everyone,

Lately I have been looking to upgrade my computer, and i only want to spend a maximum of AU$2700 including a monitor, speakers ect. And i want something along the lines of this combination:

(coming to AU$2698 or US$2240 or £1132 (Details on each product can be found at the site i chose them from (www.itestate.com.au))

However, lately i have read that a number of new computer components are coming out, such as:

  • DDR3 RAM (already out)
  • Motherboards supporting DDR3 RAM by Samsung (in production)
  • Nvidia G90 (or 8900?) (to be released Q4 2007)
  • AMD releasing the 'Barcelona' quad core (August September 2007)

Of course all of these products will push down the price of most of the products on the current market, and will obviously be more technologically advanced (especially the Nvidia G90, meant to be twice as 'powerful' as the current top of the line Nvidia available now), but the big question is, is it worth waiting for all this?

Just like all technology, faster and more advanced technology comes out within a month that makes you one month old top priced hardware look ancient, but surely these upgrades are worth waiting for?

Personally, I would wait at least till the end of July of this year. This is when AMD is planning to release their Agena FX processors and Intel's already announced that there is going to be a big price cut for Core 2 Duo's on July 22nd or 23rd. DDR3 should be very accessible by that time as well, as for G90 it is up to you, if you CAN live with your current PC till Q4 2007, just wait. By the time G90 is released there should be no more surprises coming out anytime soon.

Buy when you need a new computer as the market is ever changing. Even if you ordered it now by the time youve built it something better will be out.

Robo kind of off topic, but where in Nottingham do you live?

Yes, in my eyes both of you are correct. There's never a right time to buy a computer, if you waiting for something specifically then sure wait. But by the time you build it, yes there's always going to be something bigger and better just around the corner.;)

I say go for it. The only thing I would consider waiting for are the price cuts on the Core 2 Duos in July, but if you want your computer now you should just do it.

Even if better technology does come out, it will be expensive as hell and will be overkill for any games or programs on the market right now anyways.

I've had the same computer for like 3 years now, and other than a video card upgrade I still consider it top of the line.

There is NEVER a good time to buy a computer haha, so I just say go for it.

Well if you do end up waiting for the price cut, get the e6600 or q6700 instead. Just a thought. And I'd be willing to bet you could find a good 19' for cheaper than that.

i think ill wait atleast for the price cut's. I dont know much information about the price cuts or new releases so ill post a new thread requesting information for that :o
