Should I upgrade?

I have a Dell Dimension XPS T500 with a 149 GB harddrive, 500 mhz Pentium 3(one of the slot-1 type processors), 256 mb of ram, CD/DVD burner, floppy drive, Windows XP Pro SP 2. The device manager says I have a Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter. I'm not sure on anything else, if you need anymore info, tell me how to get it and I will. So, should I upgrade, and if so, what should I upgrade? How much do you think my computer's worth now?

yes, i'm quite sure you can change your MOBO, but you have to make sure it is all compatible.
And yes, you need quite an upgrade. Here is a suggestion.
Buy a new case, a ne wmotherbord, and a new CPU. then add all your computer stuff to that new PC. (it will be like a ½ DellRolleyes: )
or simply add afew things.
for example, having 512 MB of RAM qould be good.
Your Hard Drive is ok. So is windows.

I would just go ahead and buy a new computer, because for a new mobo, case, cpu, and everything it wouldnt be that much more, btw:what are you using the computer for, gaming?? just internet?? work??

about how much would all that cost? because I could get a Dell without the unneeded things (ex. with a small hard drive, CD Burner/Dvd player, low ram) for about $250, also I was thinking about geting 1 gig of ram from tech for less, it's only $50.

I'd be using the computer for everything, internet, Limewire, High School, music, videos, games, the only games I've been able to play on here are pretty old games (Old Sims, Hotwheels, Sonic, Lemmings) but I want to play new/good games, like Halo and Doom 3.

well, you can go ahead and buy that dell for 250$, and then simple puit these two computer together...it would make a better one.

Just buy a new computer, its not worth upgrading that old of a system. You can just get one of those super cheap emachine deals, like 200-300 bucks, and upgrade as you wish. Or you can build a computer. What do you want to do with thsi system anyways?

I want to use it for Limewire, games, music, movies, internet, high school work, pretty much everything, I'm on my computer all the time.

I think what I'm going to do is this, I'm going to save up about $700 - $800, get 2 Dell computers(one for my mom's house and one for my dad's house) one of them will have the minimum and I will upgrade that one with the components I have on this computer, than the other one will be really good and have everything I need already built in. The only problem is that I also wanted a PS3, but I would only have enough money for either the computers or the PS3, I'm pretty sure I want the computers more though, but I don't know, I'll wait till I have the money and see what happens.

BTW, should I get a like super computer so I won't have to upgrade or replace it for a long time?

Here's what I was thinking about getting, which one would you choose?
1. 2 real good desktops
2. 1 okay laptop and 2 okay desktops
3. 2 okay desktops

What specs would you recommend?(cpu speed, ram size, etc.)

I vote one really good desktop, and a cheapo laptop. Laptop to do some stuff on the go, more powerful desktop for serious computing, that's how I roll.

I don't know, I could either do sc7's way or burnitdown's way, the only thing bad about having one really good desktop is I have to swtich back and forth between houses every week (this week I'm with my mom, next week I'm with my dad, week after I'm back at mom's)

I don't know, I'm either getting 2 pretty good desktops or 1 killer laptop, it will probobly depend on the cost.

Well, in that situation, I'd get one killer laptop.
