Should I wait the 1070?

Hi, my gaming pc broke a few weeks ago and ever since ive been dying of boredom. The 1070 comes out in 10 days but I honestly can't wait anymore. Will the 1070 really be better than the rx 480 8gb? If the difference is considerable then ill wait but if its only slight differences or the 480 performs better then ill just get that.

Probably will have availability issues with 1060 at the beginning which has been whats going on with the other just released nvidia cards. Just checked on newegg and rx480 is out of stock as well. So may have an issue either way.

They're very similar cards. I mean, it pretty much boils down to which one is available first and/or if you care about Nvidia's geforce experience. If you plan on running a multi-gpu setup in the future, you're only choice is the RX 480 as the 1060 doesn't have SLi support.

how significant does geforce experience optimize gaming?
I could be totally off but as far as I understand it the software automatically sets in game settings based on your setup so you don't have to do it yourself. Somebody can feel free to correct me but that's what I always understood it as.

It's right. That's what it does. I don't use it because I like to change my own settings not because I want it to look even nicer, but some games benefit with lower graphics to gain that advantage in competition.

The GTX 1060 will probably cost around $100 USD more than the RX 480 to begin with. Personally I wouldn't bother with it.

You could get one RX 480 now, and one in the future ($400-460). Together they would perform as well as a GTX 1080 ($600-800) for basically the cost of a GTX 1070 ($400-500)

I would just go for the RX 480. The 1060 benchmarks are still under NDA but I'm pretty sure they will perform more or less the same.

Performance wise they are nearly the same, but it's up to you.

Personally, I would not get the R9 390 due to the fact that it needs more power, and generates more heat. In most benchmarks it doesn't seem to have as much of a problem with keeping up to the RX 480 in DX12, compared to other GPU's.

One benefit you have is that you'll get it before you get your hands on a RX480.

You have about 17 minutes and counting, and hopefully another member can weigh in on this.

Welp I got it. Whether it was the right choose or not I guess this thread is finished. The end of an era.
Id give a eulogy but thatd be too melodramatic than this reply already is.

Meh, I would never buy a "new" video card off ebay. You lose pretty much all warranty support.
I bought a used GPU off Ebay. Sapphire RMA'd it without a hassle even though I explicity stated it was used and I bought it on Ebay. You're mileage may vary but I wouldn't think manufacturers have a problem with the fact it's on Ebay.
