Should I wait?

Okay, I have already bought a DFI lanpart expert mobo and a amd athlon 64 4400 x2. I was gonna buy a 7800gt like very soon. I was woundering if i should wait for the new cores on the video cards that support direct x10 to come out. Does anyone have a time line when this will come out. And what the price difference would be?

I don't think DX10 video cards will be available for some time. Since the 7800 series is still pretty "fresh".

^^Ya. I think that the 7800 series should be the "it" thing for some time. That is, until ATi pulls something out... just watch :P

Microsoft makes directx not Nvidia so i doubt the fact that nvidia just released a video card a couple months ago would make a difference when they release it. If they have it ready i would think they would release it.

Thats not what they're syaing. They mean, how cards like the 6800GT are "Direct X 9 compatable" the newer cards will start saying "Direct X 10 Compatable" as a selling point.

^-how do they demonstrate dx10 then?
also, ati already pulled out something to compete with the 7800... and it was good for them until nvidia released the 512 like 2 weeks later lol.

they demonstrate it using software. not accual cards that support it. Or thats what i read :P and everything on the net is true of course lol

^ Yes but supposavly no card out atm will be able to run directx 10

well,.. that would be a pretty stupid marketing, wouldnt it?
because then only the people who can buy a new pc ( because most ppl still have a agp pc) would be able to play that game.
and i seriously doubt much people are going to buy a new pc for 1 game.
I mean, you know how much bitching and whining there was about the requirements when bf2 came out, i seriously doubt the would make a even bigger step.

( ok, more will follow... but, my guess would be dx9c cards can run dx10 games, so dont worry about that. )

and,.. if you seen that cryengine 2 movie about dx10... well,.. that was made with a modified cryengine, no nothing really fancy

I think most cards, atleast highend ones can run DX10 but they don't support it 100% cause they don't support DX10 in hardware level.

Dammit that sucks. I am not getting Vista until its absolutely necessary. The fact that DX10 is releasing in Vista and is not backwards compatible sucks. Who are the geniouses at M$ that decided it was a good idea to alienate the vast majority of computer users?
