Should I?

Hmm

Currently, I would still recommend C2D. However, me being a fan of AMD, some of the upper X2 models offer solid performance and should not be overlooked. They are well performing processors and still competitive. Sometimes I have the feeling C2Ds are overhyped. The HT is 1000Mhz max. 2000Mhz is a marketing trick :P Although I am a little bit out of the game, the core frequency is at 200Mhz on default, with the multiplier of the given processor setting the speed (ex: 200Mhz x 9 = 1800Mhz for an Athlon 3000+ single core - same for dual core). I hope this clears things up a bit. With regards to the motherboard, I would recommend MSI, Asus, DFI and ABIT. DO you wish to do some OC'ing? Tell us more about what you wanna use it for first.

JAN :D

Gaming and schoolwork is about all. I usually stick to Intel but I want to mess with an AMD. I will buy myself a Core 2 Duo. I plan on OC'ing, maybe a Gigabyte board?

Looks good to me. As the comments state it's not an enthusiast board.. should be more than enough though. :)

If the bios is b2 or before you'll need to flash to unlock it's full overclocking capabilities.

Remember that AMDs don't have as much overclocking headroom. You could just buy a really cheap Core 2 Duo.
