Should my RAM look like this?

I just ram CPUID for the first time and it says my PC2-6400 RAM is running at 400MHz. Is that how it should be, and since it's DDR2 it actually runs at the advertised 800MHz? Or should CPUID be reading 800MHz?

Thanks.

Sorry about the jpeg artifacts, I had to convert it with paint.

The actual speed is 400mhz, no more, DDR is just capable of transferring data on the rise and fall of the clock cycle. Thus DDR(2)-800 is misleading, Instead of telling people the RAM can transfer data two times per clock, they take the easy route and just double the speed.

Thanks for the reply, but just to confirm, there's nothing wrong in that screenshot? DDR2 800 RAM is supposed to read at 400MHz?

If so, that is certainly misleading. "DDR2 800" implies that it'd run at a speed comparable to 1600MHz.

It'd be like a HyperThreaded P4 advertised at 3GHz that actually operates at 1.5.

Oh well, as long as there's nothing I need to fix. I hate tampering with that stuff.

Well yea i agree with cromewen DDR2-800 runs at 400MHz......There is nothing wrong with the hard disc..

That's good, thanks. I have another question.. when people say they've overclocked their DDR2 RAM to say, 1200 MHz, did they actually overclock it to 600MHz?

And that DDR3 RAM that would run, hypothetically, at 999MHz would actually only need to run at 333MHz?

Yes, that's right. My RAM actually runs at 574 MHz, although it's overclocked to 1148.
