i'm building a new computer for my sister and i wanted to know if everything was working... knowing that i didn't have any RAM yet (backordered on newegg.com had to get different stuff) i thought if i plugged everything in i should be getting a beep code to tell me that there's no RAM/it isn't installed correctly... but when i push the power button all i get is a short click and an even shorter noise like electricity is passing through the system... after that it goes blank... the whole process takes less than a 1/10 sec... is my mobo DOA or should i just wait for the RAM?

Hmm. You should be getting a beep code signalling the lack of RAM. At least you would think so anyways. I wonder if it depends on the mobo? It's not like I try that all the time or anything though.

well i thought i should get something at least... and i was curious if it'd beep or not... i guess i'll wait for the RAM...

but here's my prob... not on ounce of juice is making it to the mobo i think... not even my cpu fan spins...

Crazy as this sounds, make sure you have a speaker. My P180 did not come with one and my MoBo doesn't have one. I had to salvage one from an old build.

i know but my cpu fan doesn't even start spinning... doesn't even move... i get a split second click and get a high pitch sound like electricity flowing through it... then i have to click the main switch to off and back to on again before i can produce the effect again...

doesn't sound crazy. my mobo doesn't have one, and my antec 1200 doesn't have one as far as i can tell.

You should really be getting some kind of beep but I would wait until you have the RAM first as the RAM might not be the main problem, could be power.

Jack.

Hehe, i said it the last time this happened and i caught it, i'm gonna say it again now, new people make me giggle by not looking at when the post was last looked at :P

Pointless offering advice, even though it is good to see that we have new people and that they are happy to help, but it is most probably falling on deaf ears, this thread hasn't been touched til that bot since 2006

if you are still getting the beep sounds (codes)
you should have a look at this thread regarding beep code , it tells u the meaning of different beep codes for major brands like American Megatrends Int. & Phoenix.

not evryone gets a beep it has to be set up in bios my system is 100% beep free and it runs rine. It dosent even beep at startup. And ofcourse wait for the ram. No system will start up with no ram...
