Okay well if you have a DVD over 4.7gb's then it's obvious your copying illegal material, and not a home movie. We don't talk about that sorta thing here.

(If I'm wrong i appologize, however.)

Trying to copy a DVD with DVDShrink? Uh oh! That means illegal copying! 'Tis a no-no to discuss that here at this forum, last I recall.

I am not suggesting that you should be copying something illegally; install Nero and your problems will be solved. Of course I am sure there are other programs, but Nero ships free with many a DVD burner. OvenMaster, there are "couple" of times that I had the need to shrink, course I was working on some huge military type stuff.

its not illegal if you bought the dvd, its perfectly legal to make a backup copy for your own use :)
(you know, keep the regular copy in its case, keep it from getting ruined)

It's illegal to break the Copy protection. Whether having a copy is or not, practically all movie DVD's have copy protection. And its illegal to break/crack it.

My apologies on that lack of distinction.
What I should have said was that if someone uses DVD Shrink to crack encryption on commercially available DVDs in order to back them up, then THAT is illegal. Using it to compress one's own created data is indeed legal... and of course, I have zero problem with that. Neither do the mods here.

DVD shrink doesn't actually decrypt, it doesn't have a deCSS component so it can't decryt the information. That's why DVD decryper has been confiscated by the government and DVD shrink is still available.

It may be availablt on 3rd party sites, but in Feb 2004 the companies had to discontinue the products that break the copy protection.

there will always be a way to do that stuff illegally, no matter how much they try to "confiscate" that stuff there's always copies online. personally i don't think it's worth copying dvd's because you can just rent it for $4 and who needs to see a movie more than once? if you do then just borrow it from a friend or somethin. copying dvd's actually costs MORE than borrowing the movie lol. ( $.5 USD per blank dvd last time i checked)
