Shut down problem

Ever since I downloaded SP3 now when I click shut down I wait until it stops but the hard drive light comes on and I have to reach behind it to manually switch the on off switch off. Cant use the front on off switch anymore due to this.

its seems to be an os problem, and your computer freezes up. try re-installing xp. and then try to get sp3 a different way.
 
In Add/Remove try uninstalling the SP3 update. This will then revert back to SP2, or a system restore point before the update will reset it.
 
Thanks a lot fellows, do I really need sp3? Im not a computer geek or anything but it took me 3 hours to get sp3 when I got it. Had to go through Microsoft on the phone and they had someone in India talk it through for me over the phone. I run Firefox so do I actually need sp3.

If SP3 is troublesome to you then no, you don't need it. Revert to SP2 and microsoft updates will still come through keeping you updated.
 
Oh oh I get it now wow that is old school, well I uninstalled sp3 and there is no difference at all computer still has to be turned off manually what a waste of time.

What exactly is it doing when you click shut down. Windows shuts down but the computer stays on or Windows just sits there looking at you.

anyways back to topic: make sure all the cables are properly hooked up.
 
I should of explained it further. Sorry. This is what it did, my computer ran great until the day I downloaded sp3, before when shutting it down all I had to do was click the mouse on shutdown. The computer would boot down and automatically shut off. Now when I click shutdown it shuts down but wont turn off. I have to reach around to the back of it and flip the on off switch on the back of it. When it ran good and I wanted it turned on all I did was push the button on the front of it now I have to reach around to the back and flip the main on and off.

Have another question for someone, I have downloaded a couple movies to my hard drive and now I want to burn them to a dvd. I have 4.7 and 8.2 dvd's + amd - and using Nero7. Nero doesn't see the files on my hard drive, one of the movies is avi and the other is mp3. Now if I use CloneDVD or CloneDVD2 it burns from one disk to another perfectly. But neither software will burn from my hard drive. Any suggestions on a cheap burn software?
