shutdown vs. sleep

If you switch on and off your machine more than twice a day put it to sleep. That's what I've been told. The components expand when they are heated up quickly which could damage them. Think of it as a light bulb, when a bulb is most likely to fail?

but in sleep only the ram is on...

Still, put it to sleep because it's faster and more convenient. There's no reason to shut it down every time you aren't using it.
