I have a Linksys wrt54g V8 router and i need to boost its signal to reach all through the house, The support at Linksys told me its obsolete but did recommend the linksys wap54g to boost the signal. Is this best or what other options do i have to make my signal stronger? Thanks.

if its wireless put the router in the center of the house.

I'm trying to avoid doing that, I really dont have a place for it there. If i did though, I would have to buy a network card for my machine right? because the cable modem would have to go out there with it.

If you can't relocate, trying moving away from any current obstructions to the signal. I improved a friend's signal by moving from the floor below the desk up to shoulder height. You can have someone move the router around like you used to do with "rabbit ear" TV aerials to find any better locations.

Something I have not tried - you can get ac non-contact mains detectors that tell you if a switch or electrical device is powered (50VAC and up). They are $10-20. You can use them to detect wiring in standard walls. If you can keep the router away from house wiring, especially if between the router and most of the house, it may help.

You can only boost your wifi signal so much because the FCC (Federal Communications Commision) regulates how strong of a signal you are allowed to transmit. They don't want every other Joe polluting the air with personal waves. If you boost the signal the maximum allowed by law and still can't connect then try getting a better receiving antenna for the network adaptor. My brother had this problem and I bought him a Hawking HWDN2 network adaptor/antenna combo for $60 and it solved his problem. Hawking is a great place to find wifi range extending products.
