Signs that your mobo has died

so, ive got a slight problem with my pc. i press the start button, my fans start, the lights go on, and thats it. my keyboard / mouse dont light up, my monitor stays black, and keeping the off-button pressed wont turn it off.

after consulting various different sources, ive come to assume that my motherboard somehow has died. but before i go spending money on a new one, does this sound like how a computer without a montherboard would act?

also, if my mobo has died, is there a chance that other things, like my CPU, ram, video card etc. might have been killed as well? thanks a bunch :)

That could be your motherboard, but it's not limited to it... You could also have a bad power supply, RAM, a short...or about anything else. Failing components don't always do the same thing. I've seen hard drives that prevented computers from powering up at all(IE no fans or anything).

As for the rest of your components, typically they are just fine.

I'm sure my motherboard has died couple of days ago pressed the on button and nothing the only thing that came on was the power light on the PSU at the back Also noticed as I switched the comp on their was a crack not sure what on the motherboard that could of been. No fans or lights are on inside.

I tried the PSU from the other computer and I got the same result Spent all day trying to get the good gaming stuff installed in to the rendering workstation so I could carry on playing the too addictive X3 game. All parts from the blown comp work including the Hardrive in the newly created Dual processor gaming machine.

I'm hoping when I do get a new computer the PSU from the old one doesnt make a crack noise and kill the new one I'm sure the PSU couldn't of killed it as it's a £100 power protection one. what I really hate about computers is their sometime hard to find what the fault is this got me mad this time as it happend 3 days after I just reinstalled the OS and took a whole day to get it fully installed with all my software and game addons. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Iff your pSU has power protection keep trying it every 5 mins to reset it.

check the plug for a blown fuse.

Check if the cpu fan has eaten the power cable to the motherboard.

Make sure it's all pluged in at the wall plug extention and so on.
