Silicone grease (Dielectric)

Can I slather my circuit boards in silicone grease without danger??
(Goal: water resistance)

I have many cash registers that are used in food service which sometimes have to withstand a spilled beer or soda. These baths aren't always a problem because of the design and position of my registers. But occasionally the circuitry will short to ground.

I'm wondering if silicone grease can reduce my number of failed registers but I'm worried that the grease will only cause more problems.

Does anyone have input? I'm hoping that I'll be able to use an aerosol spray that will last 6 months before I have to re-apply.

Thank you for reading. I tried to be as direct as possible.
