Simple hard drive question (using 2 hard drives)

Hey guys, I had a pretty basic question. At least I hope this comes accross as basic.

I'm upgrading my current computer and I'm using a hard drive with about ~640GB of space. That hard drive currently has Windows Vista.

My new computer which I'm almost done building has a new hard drive which is a SATA (my first time using a SATA).

My current system hard drive is NOT compatable with my new computer motherboard (so I'm told, I don't have much knowledge in this area).

Can I combine my two hard drives and use my current hard drive with vista and my new SATA one to be compatable with?

I hope this is making sense, please help!

What motherboard are you using for your new build? Usually they have at least 1 IDE controller so you could use that for the old hard drive unless you plan on using the ide controller for your cd drives.

I don't even use my CD slots all but once a year, seriously, lol. So I would probabaly choose the method to use it for my hard drives.


EDIT: There are no IDE ports on this mobo which I bought, can I add an IDE port somehow?

You can either get a pci ide controller card to run your IDE hard drive or use a usb to IDE adapter and use it like an external drive.

Your motherboard doesn't have an IDE port, which is the one your old hard drive uses. You could pick up a PCI card for IDE fairly cheap. Or, grab an external case for it with an IDE interface and use it as a USB drive.

Now, I just hope I can figure out how to use 2 hard drives so the one with Windows Vista will be read properly.
