Simple keyboard problem

Hi,
I recently bought a new pc, and during the initial setup I was asked what nationality keyboard Im using. I left it at the default setting which was US, even though the keyboard is Irish. Now I find that a few keys dont function correctly, such as the "@" symbol being assigned to the wrong key.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I tried changing it via the hardward profiles in the control panel, but couldnt find a solution.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm running Windows XP Media Centre, if thats any help.
 
Sounds like you need a different keyboard there. On something like that there is no way of changing what is seen when pressing a key unless that is a programmable model where you customize key assignments. But from your mention of it being an Irish keyboard suggests parts were mixed when assembled.
 
Thanks for the reply, but I dont think a different keyboard is the answer, as its a laptop.
Im pretty sure the problem can be solved by re-installing Windows and selecting the correct option in Setup.
Id like to know if there's an alternate method that doesnt involve re-installation.
 
If it's not a hardware but Windows related problem you could try a few things like the system file checker(sfc /scannow at the Run prompt) to see if that finds any glitches with your current installation. But the mention of keys seeing differnent characters could be one of two other things. One would be language support if it was for a different alphabet other then English. The second of course is a hardware fault in there somewhere. Did you ever press any of those install support for another language popup messages? That could throw the keys off there. Look in the Control Panel under add/remove to see if you spot anything there.
