Simple question about video card installation

I have an nVidia MX-440 right now and I would like to replace it with an nVidia GeForce 6200. My question is how do I uninstall the MX440? Do I go to Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advanced - Adapter (tab) and then via properties there do I uninstall the driver?

This is my first time replacing a video card so I don't even know if you have to uninstall the older card or if you can just physically switch cards, boot up and then install the drivers for the new card.

Ok, I'll go ahead and do it. Now, is there anything else I need to uninstall or is it enough to uninstall the driver.

Oh yeah, and what will happen right after I uninstall the driver? Does windows just use a generic driver until I shut down the pc and switch cards etc...?
 
Windows will continue using the current drive until you restart. Then it will use a default driver and should ask about installing a new one.
 
I would be a good idea to install the new drivers before putting the new card in. After that I'm pretty sure it's just put it in and boot.
 
Thanks for all the input and help. I deleted the nVidia driver software from the "add and remove programs" list. Then I uninstalled the drivers. Rebooted to Safe Mode to check and see what it looked like. All was ok and I shut down the pc. I replaced the cards, booted up, installed the new drivers and I'm back in business. :)

Is it just my impression, or could my desktop and icons look a bit neater now with the new card. :confused: I mean, I thought you wouldn't notice the difference unless you played games etc... so maybe I'm just imagining it looks better. What do you think? Old card was nVidia MX440 (64MB) and new card is the GeForce 6200 (128MB). It wasn't a major upgrade in video card, but I'm not a gamer at all and I basically did it to handle windows Vista better. I hope it was an ok move. I didn't want to spend too much.

You mean that the desktop is neater or could be neater?

If you saying it could be neater, than mabe from uninstalling and installing new drivers that your display setting were changed, you could check the Display properties.

If your saying it is better, well your propably right :)

LOL - I mean "neater" as in the display quality is clearer and sharper now (at least it seems like it to me). My resolution settings etc. are all the same. I didn't know if a new video card could make a difference in the clarity and sharpness of regular icons on the desktop or if the only way you could tell a difference was when playing games.

So, it IS possible that things look nicer now? It's not just my imagination? Will my videos and movies look nicer too now?
