simple question..

No m8 graphics cards have there own dedicated memory for it to work (exception beingturbocache models) so its just informing you of the type of ram that a card uses as we now go upto GDDR 4
 
no. that is just the memory the GPu uses, and you dont have to use that type.

eg, the ATI HD3870 has GDDR4, then that would mean we need GDDR4 ram, but that doesnt exist.

So to answer, no you dont need to
