Simple question

I have an old desktop that I'd like to install some software on. The problem is the software is in DVD format and the desktop only has CD. I have a laptop with a DVD drive. Question is, is there any way to hook the laptop up to the desktop and use that drive to install the software? Any other options I may have other than buying a DVD drive? Thanks for the help.

i'm also interested in this answer since i need to load software on a drive-less pc. i gotta wait to get home and try though, but i think you can share the drive within your network.

Its simple, if u get hold of a pen drive. Just copy the contents of the DVD into ur pen drive and use it in ur drive less PC.

OR, If u want the whole DVD to look like exactly, do this. Create and iso image of the DVD in ur laptop,(using ultraiso, etc). Then copy the image into pen drive. If ur pen drive is not large enough, split the image into usable sizes using winrar. Then copy all the files into ur PC. Then extract the winrar archive to get the iso image of the DVD. Then use daemon tools to mount the DVD image on the virtual drive. Then u can use it as a normal DVD.

OR, Use a LAN wire to connect the pc and the laptop. Enable file sharing, and just share the DVD drive in ur laptop. Then u can open the DVD drive of the laptop from the PC itself.

Thanks for the suggestions. The software I'm trying to install is Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise so I'm guessing that a pen drive won't work? Sorry, not very computer savvy.

You can network the 2 together and map the laptops dvd drive to the desktop. I've done it before and it works.

Are you running a router? Or are you sharing internet from one to the other? Basically what you need to do is run the network setup wizard on both machines. Make sure both are in the same workgroup before you start. While setting it up, enable file and printer sharing. Once you have ran it on both machines then enable sharing on your dvd rom drive on the laptop. Go back to desktop and map dvd drive to your desktop. Or you can go buy a $20 dvd drive.
