Simply CANNOT Connect To Internet

Hey. I have a PC (if you need more info, request it) with Windows XP installed on it, which I have recently reset the whole system with. I have my LAN cable plugged into the PC, and the lights are flashing, so the cord is in properly, but I cannot connect to the internet, nor type 192.168.1.1 to connect directly to my modem. I've gone through the set up a new internet connection and stuff, but it just says I am now ready to connect, and then it still does not work. I have tried thorugh Internet Explorer, and have tried through Firefox, which I got on a USB and installed on there. Have you got any ideas?

Open a command prompt window. Type "ipconfig" and hit Enter. If everything says 0.0.0.0 then something isnt hooked up right or the modem has crapped out.

Well, I typed cmd.exe to get into the command prompt in RUN, and then typed ipconfig into there, and it didn't give me anything like 0.0.0.0

It just said Windows IP Configuration, then gave me the option to type something else.

I know the Modem is fine, because I am currently writing this message from another computer within the house which uses it fine, and that particular cord into the not working computer at the moment was working in my other computer just 5 minutes ago.

Also, it seems like everything is plugged in allright, because the little lights are flashing around where the cord is plugged into the computer.

Please check the device manager to make sure all required drivers are installed including the lan driver.
