Sims 2- Problem With Direct X

Ok I putin the 1st disk, it tells me I need to install Direct X 9.0c so I do, I go through the set up process and it's downloading components, then a window pops up sayin:
a cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted

then it tells me that installation has failed

So ive tried deletin the original direct X and then installing 9.0c but everytime; i come up against the same problem. I'm using Windows XP What will i do?! I wanna play the game!

If you haven't already installed XP Service Pack 2, do so. It might solve the problem.

Exactly

I have heard that you need SP2 to ge the Sims 2 working fine. I had nor problems installing them. I was installing the 9b version with the 9c. Could it be something to do with drivers as well? Just wondering.

Have you disabled Windows Update at all?

I got the direct X problem sorted out via microsoft, they gave me some codes to run and I eventuall got it sorted. I then found out my comp didn't haveaenough memory. Ive given up, getting a new computer in march anyway! thnks again
