Sims 2 Problems, continued

When I try to install The Sims 2 on my computer, this error message comes up. It cames at different times, for example, sometimes I can get 24% done before it comes up, and sometimes I get only 4% done. Here's the message:

A problem has occurred when trying to transfer the file 'xxx' from the media.
Do you want to retry to copy the file or cancel the installation?

xxx = the file name. It's different every time, but most recently it has stopped at 24%, put that error message up, and the file name was 'TSData\Res\Sound\Sfx1.package'. I click Retry, but the same message and same file name come up each time. If anyone has any ideas tell me. I've already taken one CD back with this same problem, so I doubt I got another bad CD, it's more likely a hardware problem or something, but my CD drive reads other disks fine. Thanx in advance.

Hmmm

Are you sure you have the original. A messed up backup did the same thing to me as well. Make sure of this first.

JAN :D

Yeah, i'm positive it's the original, I just picked it up from Best Buy a week or two ago. I'm positive the game's original.

maybe try on a friends computer?
check inside your comp for loose cables?

or go back and get another disk - that one could be faulty as well. :)
